Almost November

"I saw the lovely arch
Of rainbow span the sky,
The gold sun burning
As the rain swept by."
- Elizabeth Coatsworth, November

Though the sun shines warmly here on the west coast it is still autumn. We will have a feast of Roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce and hot out of the oven dinner rolls. Mmmm...then we will hand out candy to all the wee little monsters that grace our front porch tonight.

Seaside Sundays

I am finally feeling better and I am looking forward to November. I have some changes in my home to share with you! My favorite thing in this Coastal Living photo is the ocean view and the pale red striped grainsack toss pillow. My eyes are drawn straight to that pillow. ox

Beautiful Places...

I won!!! What a way to make a girl feel better. I think I could do a lil dance...a tiny twirl. Wee...I am so delighted.
Thank you beautiful Lulu of Dusty Lu Interiors for this lovely gift. ox
She has had the privilege of being one of Rachel's photographers! How wonderful is that. I admire all of her work. Annndd... she has a son named Luke, just like I do.

I can't wait to linger through these lovely pages...

Rachel has such a gentle, beautiful spirit that shines softly in everything she creates. I always feel peace from her beauty.

She has a way of reminding me of what is most important in decorating my home. She knows how to keep it a place of sanctuary.

She does take us to Beautiful Places.

I had already ordered the book, which is supposed to arrive for my birthday on Nov. 11th. But I am going to keep the signed one from Lu and give the one I ordered away to my daughter...or a dear friend. ox

I can hardly wait!

Kerrie

My sweet bleubell(Bella Bleu) by my side. ox

October's End...

How beautifully leaves grow old. How full of light and color are their last days. ~John Burroughs

October comes to an end this week...

Ours is full with Homecoming. On Friday I will ride my bike to watch my son on the float in the parade, like I have for the last two years. Then we will go cheer for our undefeated football team. Immediately after the game we will quickly change into costumes and drive out to the country for our friend's Halloween Party. We are spending the night in the 'Pearl', who has been at home on their land since June. All four of my children are coming so we shall have a good ole time!

For us October is not just about harvest festivals, pumpkin patches, apple cider, and hearty soups.

or cozying up by the fire.

It's also about my youngest child, my baby boy...

Today is his sweet sixteenth birthday.
Jeremiah Samuel born October 24th 10 lbs 9 oz.

I remembered this morning that I have always called him pumpkin, or pumpkin pie. Funny that I never realized how appropriate that is until now. I am baking a chocolate cake and will order Round Table pizza(his favorite) for dinner. He spent the weekend camping with his Dad, brother, and best friend on the coast boogie boarding and cruisin around on his new longboard. So tonight we will stay home and carve pumpkins.

October's end...

October is always full of making memories but I am looking forward to November, are you?

Sea tidings,
Kerrie

Pine tree christmas cards are now available in my etsy.

I know, I know I said they would be available Nov.1st. But my entire family went away this weekend(the boys camping, the girls with friends) so I was able to get alot done here alone by my wee lil self. It has been like I'm on my own retreat. The quiet is beautiful.

Pine trees Christmas Cards...

Pine Forest

Let us go now into the forest.
Trees will pass by your face,
and I will stop and offer you to them,
but they cannot bend down.
The night watches over its creatures,
except for the pine trees that never change:
the old wounded springs that spring
blessed gum, eternal afternoons.
If they could, the trees would lift you
and carry you from valley to valley,
and you would pass from arm to arm,
a child running
from father to father.
~ Gabriela Mistral

I know it isn't even Halloween yet, but I wanted to let you know that I am painting, creating, and printing card sets for Christmas card giving. The sets will be available by Nov. 1 in my etsy shop. They will come in packages of 10 for $10.oo.

You can't stay in your corner of the forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes.
~A. A. Milne

The cards will be blank so you can write your own holiday message. I will be offering sets of the moss pine tree, grey pine tree, and natural pine tree with seastar.

I already have hand stamped seastar(starfish) cards and 'the island' available as Coastal Christmas in my etsy.

I will be making simple gift tags hand-stamped with starfish and crowns. They will be available in sets of 20 for $5.oo on Nov.1 also.

It is not so much for its beauty that the forest makes a claim upon men's hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air that emanation from old trees, that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit.
~Robert Louis Stevenson

Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful. ~Norman Vincent Peale

Looking forward to offering gentle gift tags and notecards washed by the sea for you. ox

Simplicity Creates Calm

I am drawn to the barrenness of the autumn and winter months. As the leaves begin to fall and our landscape becomes dry and bare I like my home to reflect the season. The days become colder and more time is spent indoors. I have found that our home is more comfortable for my family with a bare and natural setting. Simplicity creates calm. Therefore decor in shades of the earth, trees, and grey skies have made there way into Sea Cottage. I have found myself once again gravitating towards nordic coastal with that empty beach feel of winter. The bare white walls and slipcovered sofas as my backdrop adding elements of warmth with faux fur and linen pillows, soft natural fiber throws in a wicker basket, a few pieces of driftwood and shells, vintage books for reading, along with plenty of modern tea cups in natural beige for sipping coffee and tea. If there is too much clutter we begin to feel closed in. I like to keep the blinds open for light to stream in and the home decor to flow with the natural elements outdoors.

Our cottage is a comfortable shelter in its bare and simple furnishings. I like it this way...and I can finally define my style...Nordic Coastal. ox
