California Autumn

 

It has been low 90's all week here in northern california.  It is supposed to reach the 100's this weekend.  A typical California autumn.  We are spending our days poolside and riding our beach cruisers.  I found our seawashed pumpkin at Trader Joes.  It goes perfectly with our 'new' old boat oars...a gift from my dear friend jAne of Tickleberry Farm. 

 

Homegrown fiji apples from Santa Cruz.   Holly's beau is attending UCSC this fall and these are from the trees in his backyard. 

A trellis my hubby built in our 'Quiet Garden'.  We just planted 'creeping fig' to grow up and over it.
The trellis gives us a bit more privacy from our neighbors.  The little birdies seem to like it as much as I do.

California Sunshine

Hello everyone.  I'm still here.  This is my first attempt at using the new blogger interface.  It doesn't seem too difficult, in fact, it's even  easier! 

 I am also on vacation right now with my hubby.  We are lingering in the warm California sunshine ... see you next week!

French Nordic Living

Everytime I open a Jeanne D Arc Living magazine I am inspired by the french nordic style of living. There is something so comforting in the grey, white, simple, organic, raw, delicate and rustic lifestyle.



I have found that my own cottage has slowly yet subtly evolved into this style. The grey palette calmly implies 'sanctuary'. There is a quiet peace with the soft greys that remind me of the calm foggy seashore.



White, grey, and beige are my constants, yet the darker shades of brown find there place in Sea Cottage during the autumn months.



'November Tree' was also inspired by the french nordic living as I paint the field with distant trees just beyond our garden gate. Now in the shop $20







This has been a long difficult week for me. So a bit of respite here was much needed...and a teaspoon of rose petals helps. Hope you are all well.

Autumn Fields

I am painting fields in autumn...



in my favorite autumn palette of greys, dark browns, whites, and a hint of sea green.





This is the first on an 8 x 10 canvas. I will be painting more in different sizes and views but similar so they can be grouped together if desired.

September Always Brings Change...

When September comes it always brings lots of change...usually all good change~ like the change of season from Summer to Autumn and beginning of a new school year. But this September is bringing another change that I am still hoping will not really happen...the new blogger interface.

Last September Google introduced it and asked us to try it out. Well I did, and like many of you, was so lost and confused that I switched back to the old. Last week a new notice on my blog dashboard appeared stating that the old blogger interface will be removed within the next few days. What does that mean? Will I (we) be forced to use the new blogger interface?



So, I am wondering how many of you are in the same boat as me? How many are still using the old interface? How many were completely confused by the new and don't have time to learn something new?

And I am letting you know that 'if' I disappear this is the reason why. NOT that I want to stop blogging because I love blogging but if they remove the old and I have to learn the new, well, it may take a very long time or I may even give up. I hope(and pray) it doesn't happen. It is a change I am not embracing this September.

more grey

Whether it's the greys of the fog and sea



or the rain in the french countryside



I find beauty in the greys. I am fond of the calm it brings to my cottage all year long. More grey for me please.

Deep calls unto deep...

"Deep is calling on deep,
in the roar of waters;
Your torrents and all your
waves swept over me." Psalm 42

"He collects the waves of the ocean;
he stores up the depths of the sea." Psalm 33

Water flowing to the lowest parts. All streams and rivers trickling downward, flowing to the deep vast sea. I too am quietly flowing, over rocks and debrise, ever going lower in desire of the depths of the sea.

Summer In September...herbs in terracotta

The earthen colors always call me this time of year...at summer's ending and autumn's coming. It is the time when I bring more of nature in. The warmth of the woods calling me.



I found these herbs in aged terracotta pots at Trader Joes. I would like to have a potiere someday in the back corner of our potager, along with a potting table built by my husband. Until then terracotta pots are stacked here and there in the garden. The lizards like to hide in them. Which is fine with me because they eat the spiders.



These sit on our kitchen island. The scent of thyme telling me to roast a chicken...and serve with homemade mashed potatoes and dinner rolls. Mmm...autumn is coming.



I will eventually plant these in our potager as part of our winter garden.



The tiny aged pots will remain inside stacked alongside driftwood.



Don't you just love this time of year? I do.
