A Summer Morning

I woke from the delta breeze blowing in through the window. The marine layer had blown into our valley overnight. I made myself a cup of tea and went out into the garden to get a better view. The clouds floated over the freshly plowed field just beyond our trees. I closed my eyes while standing still under that wide open prairie sky and just breathed. I could smell the sea.

A Sea Of Summer Air

“A soft Sea washed around the House
A Sea of Summer Air

And rose and fell the magic Planks
That sailed without a care —
For Captain was the Butterfly
For Helmsman was the Bee
And an entire universe
For the delighted crew.”
― Emily Dickinson
This is my summer poem...filling our home with the calm of the sea.

My new Subway Sign with Emily Dickinson's poem is now available in my Seawashed shop.

May a Sea Of Summer air fill your days as well.
