Sea's Hem

"My heart is at the sea

the sound of water crashing
it's cool waves sweeping over my feet

the dew of fog dampening my hair
salty air cleansing my lungs

the calm found on it's empty shore
Sea's hem is where I belong."
~Kerrie Sanderson

I have been painting these subway signs with my sea quote. One for me, one for you. Using grey acrylic paint on canvas creating a driftwood look.

"Sweet Christ, discover diamonds and sapphires in my verse While I burn the sap of my pine house For the praise of the ocean sun." ~Thomas Merton

"There is a wideness in God's mercy, like the wideness of the sea." F.W Faber

"Far, far on that untrodden shore, God's secret place I find."~Gerhard Tersteegen

I will be on the shore of the Pacific soon. Next weekend I will walk hand in hand with my companion of 23 years along the Sonoma Coast. It is our anniversary.
Maybe I will find some sanddollars to sell in my etsy. I will be looking for sea treasures and hopefully bringing home some driftwood.

Until then, I will continue painting.
Sea tidings,
Kerrie

Bread & Jam with tea and Cordon Bleu bowls

This is my favorite way to begin the day...

with a simple piece of toasted bread smothered in butter and jam.
I do not begin everyday like this.
No, at my age it is important to begin with nutrient rich food.
So, most days it is oatmeal with soymilk.

But not today. This morning it is a yummy piece of Santa Cruz Bakery bread toasted, buttered(with real butter), and dripping with Trader Joes apricot preserves.

Along side my Tazo awake tea with a bit of cream and organic sugar.

Mmmm, I'm happy.

and my new favorite 'Cordon Bleu' bowls. Can you believe I found these at my local grocery market? The one that I ride my Beach Cruiser to. Perfect for my morning oatmeal.

I cannot get enough of them. First, I bought the only four they had.

Then everytime I went to market I would look to see if they had anymore. I am up to twelve now.

and I will probably buy more! That is how much I love these provence style bowls.

On another note...
We picked up my daughter, Grace, from the train yesterday afternoon. So happy to have her near me again. She has been in Nebraska for two months. I don't think I have ever heard her talk so much or smile so big. What a summer adventure she had. She even saw a bald eagle next to its huge nest on her journey home. She has been telling us story after story. She just loved meeting all her aunts and cousins...we have a BIG family.

White Pine Hallway

We have come to a decision...

White Pine Pergo laminate flooring. We found it for half the price(made by Pergo under a different name Traditional Living). After a year of going back and forth, dark or light, we've decided light. We really like the look of dark wood with white furnishings, but after buying a box of rustic dark wood and laying it out in our living room, we decided it changed the atmosphere of our Sea Cottage too drastically. I know I will never tire of light. We can only afford to do the hallway right now. So if we don't like it we can always pull it up and use it in our garage studio room. Just envision the photo above. Sigh. Soon my hallway will look like that.

I can hardly wait!

Kerrie

Summer...Sea Cottage Living

A lovely place to rest.

This summer retreat is in our Quiet Garden.

Under the pear trees and near the new herb garden.

I question not if thrushes sing,
If roses load the air;
Beyond my heart I need not reach
When all is summer there.
~John Vance Cheney

Bella Bleu likes it.

And there really is only room for her and I.

The summer night is like a perfection of thought. ~Wallace Stevens

Oh, the summer night
Has a smile of light
And she sits on a sapphire throne.
~Barry Cornwall

To see the Summer Sky
Is Poetry, though never in a Book it lie -
True Poems flee.

A Mermaid Crown...

"white dress wet at the bottom where she stands in the sea...
she was the kind of mermaid you imagine mermaids to be."
~Hannah B. Callaway

A precious sea gift came in the mail to me...a treasure as pure as the sea.

A Mermaid Crown

This seaweed inspired delicate enchanting crown was made by my best friend Dore's beautiful daughter Hannah. It was her first creation of it's kind. Did I cry...yes. She made all of the seashore tags...

a tiny seahorse tag

the crown's jewel

mermaid crown on a seawashed mantel

a soy vanilla candle called dirt candles

have you seen the new soy candles at Target?

a bowl of broken sanddollars

all on the seawashed mantel

and a seaglass lantern on the far end

I will stand in the sea letting the hem of my white skirt dip into the waves and dream of the mermaid's crown.

thank you hannah
I will cherish it always.

WHO would be
A mermaid fair,
Singing alone,
Combing her hair
Under the sea,
In a golden curl
With a comb of pearl,
On a throne?

I would be a mermaid fair;
I would sing to myself the whole of the day;
With a comb of pearl I would comb my hair;
And still as I comb’d I would sing and say,
“Who is it loves me? who loves not me?”
I would comb my hair till my ringlets would fall,
Low adown, low adown,
From under my starry sea-bud crown."
~Afred Lord Tennyson 1830

A New Place Of Inspiration...

This morning at Sea Cottage(the blog) I had one visitor...a new visitor. Her name is Hanlie of Simply Objekts blog. I got lost in inspiration while visiting her blog. Just look at this studio space...

These pale pine floors are exactly what I want in Sea Cottage someday.

Spiritual objects always draw me in.

Simplicity.

Wide open doors...I love!

Words to live by...

If you are inspired too, visit Hanlie at Simply Objekts and find more beauty in simplicity...it is her language.

Happy Monday everyone. ox
